T:AIM aims to promote collaboration between social commitment and transfeminist visual culture.
"Transfeminism: Art Identity Movement" (T:AIM) is a joint project coming from the collaboration of three artists based in the UK (Alice, Billy Jay and Anita). A three-day event of artistic and socio-cultural activities that are taking place within the "Estate allo Spasimo", a summer event programme organized by the Palermo's city council.
The need to cut out spaces for gender narrative actions is the basis of this collaboration. In other words, the core functions of this space are to analyze and debate for comparing and connecting distant realities to build transfeminist cultural spaces. So we can move beyond the usual phallocentric mechanism that prevents gender equality.
This is the main reason that led us to create T:AIM; this meaning of inclusion and refusement of the status quo will be developed by exploring the theme of women and all those who recognize themselves in the female universe, in a context of expatriation, migration and estrangement.
We want to celebrate the narration of those who are protagonists in art and culture, by combining artistic practice with social responsibility and awareness.
T:AIM is a pop-up experience of Stories of Migrant Women.
Started in 2017, Alice's images, sounds and words, allows us to know the difficulties of migrant women. Their journey across the desert and sea, and their strength unquestionable in wanting to look ahead with immense dignity.
There is also an exhibition of selected works among those artists who participated in our call, that will stay open until the end ofJuly.
Will open on August 30th for the entire weekend.
T:IAM will start on Friday 30th and will end September 1st.
All the activities and exhibitions will take place inside the monumental complex Santa Maria dello Spasimo.
Don't forget to follow our channels where we will announce our first participants and more details over the event.
